As mentioned in the blog the first day in Kyoto was a free day. It was the last major day of Golden Week and we didn't want to sort through crowds of people visiting the popular attractions so we were given the day to do some alternate sites. We decided to see about a million torii gates. We ended up finding the Hagashi Hongan-ji temple, one of the largest wooden structures in the world. It was a good find but our batteries were all dead so we didn't have any luck taking photos of the place. Joanie might have a couple I'll see if I can get a hold of.
This is part of the Cube. It's a shopping and entertainment concourse.
It was connected to the subway station by our hotel and it's just massive.
We went to the top at one point, it's about 7 floors or something like that.
This is the exact moment Alain realized he wasn't sure
where to find the torii gates. He did ask a few people but
we laughed about it any way.
Temples are great places to find cool little things.
Trinkets make great presents right? It's amazing at some
of the things that they have.
When we were tired of the torii gates and had a bite to eat at the noodle stand,
we walked back down through a part of town and found this pretty cool building.
Gotta love the construction.
