Let's give this all a frame of reference

So before this somewhat lengthly tale starts to unfold. I thought I'd show how much ground in Japan we'll potentially be covering. We'll be landing at Narita airport then heading to Asakusa in Tokyo to our first ryokan (Japanese Inn) where we'll be staying for a few nights before our Gap Adventure begins. I understand this isn't the shortest of journeys but we'll be taking the JR train for the first time. Hmm. that will be maybe 14 hours from now. (Justin raises both eyebrows and looks left and right) yup.. 14 hours or so. Oh.. if you look on the map below you can find these places and refer to them as we're on our journey. We'll be going as far south as Nagasaki.

Anyhow, we're just sitting in the terminal now waiting for the flight to Vancouver. We're both crazy excited about the road ahead and can't wait to be hot-footing it in Japan.

I'm going to shut down and relax for a few minutes and have another piece of toast. Joanie's dad was super generous and had some extra passes to the VIP lounge. Although we're a little out of place from these business people it's wonderful. The breakfast was great.

Anyhow, time to go. I'm going to see if we can exchange some more Canadian moneys for Japanese Yen.
